Snakeheads in Central Park

Snakehead Invasion

The Snakehead is invasive and dangerous to our fish populations in an ever expanding area of the US. Hard to stop and aggressive as a fish can be. They are being found in more areas all the time and have the potential to wipe out entire fish populations.

Their ability to breath air and slither snake like on dry land is a reason for concern, allowing the to traverse between bodies of water. The following is a quote from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snakehead_(fish)

Snakeheads can become invasive species and cause ecological damage because they are top-level predators, meaning they have no natural enemies outside of their native environment. Not only can they breathe atmospheric air, but they can also survive on land for up to four days, provided they are wet, and are known to migrate up to 1/4 mile on wet land to other bodies of water by wriggling with their body and fins. National Geographic has referred to snakeheads as "Fishzilla"[5] and the National Geographic Channel reported the "northern snakehead reaches sexual maturity by age two or three. Each spawning-age female can release up to 15,000 eggs at once. Snakeheads can mate as often as five times a year. This means in just two years, a single female can release up to 150,000 eggs."[5]Since 2002, it has been illegal to possess a live snakehead in many US states, where they are considered a destructive invasive species.[6]
Indeed the world becomes smaller all the time as we can see from invasions such as the snake head and other fish that have been introduced in our country recently.

Trout Fishing in Michigan

Trout Fishing on Michigan Rivers

Although I grew up in Michigan and my first duty in the morning is to read the Detroit News Online, I don't want to move back there.

That said I really enjoy going there in the Spring,Summer or Fall. I have lived in many states but I believe Michigan is one of our most beautiful states. The rivers and lakes in this state are beautiful.

Todays post is about trout fishing in Michigan, particularly on rivers in Michigan. I hope you enjoy the post's. Trout is the first fish that I intentionally tried to catch when I was growing up. There was a small pond close to home and we did our best to catch the trout that was stocked in this pond.

I remember one of my older brothers had a creek running through his property and there was always trout there and some were huge. Those same trout were stubborn and I can still remember dragging the bait across their back and them just laying there. I was very young at the time and it was the wrong time of the year.

Enjoy the post and I will see you soon!

Asian Carp Invasion

Asian Carp Invasion

This is a clear and present danger for all of the states bordering the Great Lakes. It is a mounting danger to the fish in this area, as well as commercial and sport fisherman.

This is a complex problem that will take clear heads and unfortunately money the area does not really have to be beat this menace. It is my profound hope that smart men come together to insure the survival of the fishing in this area. So many people would be hurt if their invasion is successful.

Bull Head Fishing

Bull Head fishing!

I can honestly say I don't like Bull heads. At the risk of sounding girlish(and not wanting to offend any of the ladies) they look creepy to me. I remember one of my friends fathers would catch them and bring them home.

Then I watched him nail them to a board and peel them. Yep I was young impressionable and from that moment on I could not stand the slippery little critters. Sorry about that Bull head lovers but at my age it is not likely that I will change my mind.

But for the sake of those curious or wanting more information here is a couple of stories and a video for you to peruse. Enjoy and please forgive me for not sharing you feelings.

Texas "Floyd Mabry" Fishing Legend

Texas "Floyd Mabry" Fishing Legend

It has been said "do something you love, and you will never work a day in your life". This fishing legend did just that.

As I am retired now and have the time to reflect on my life and since today is Fathers Day I can think of my dad and my Father in law, we all toiled many years, in Retail, and Construction. We didn't hate our jobs but oh my, imagine having to go fishing all the time?

“One of the things that makes what I do so wonderful is that age doesn’t become a factor in fishing,” he said. “You never are too old or too young to go fishing.”
loyd Mabry passed away on Sept. 24, 1991, and is buried near Edmond, OK, alongside his wife, Irene.

His words ring true! The truth is I love it when I find stories like this one. Thank you Bass Fishing Archives for a nice article and hope my readers enjoy!

Florida Fishing: Pond Bluegills.
Fishing for Bluegills in a Florida golf course pond. Florida has fantastic freshwater fishing. The Bass and Bream are often overshadowed by our terrific salt...

Where to begin?

Some of my fondest memories growing up were days spent on a pond near home. Myself and friends armed with our trust fishing poles going after the mighty trout. Always in great hopes of that huge catch that would awe and amaze family and friends.

This was in the early 1960's. You know, before the internet, our wonderful information age. Some of my friends went fishing with their dad's and gained their knowledge in that way. My dad whom I loved dearly was just not into the pastime.

As the years passed I too lost the interest in spending hours on the lake, but I never lost interest in the fishing shows on television. Now that I am retired I am again interested. My years in retail taught me gather information and to pass it to my team and my colleagues so we could all gain from the shared information.

My intentions for this blog is to gather information that will improve my experience and hopefully you will enjoy this the same as I do.

I promise to do my best to gather interesting fishing tips and articles to entertain and improve your appreciation of the sport of fishing. We hope to bring a wide variety of fish and their habits and habitats to you.
